The Military Spouse Foundation (MSF) history is deeply rooted in a simple motto of, “what’s good for one is often great for many”. Ten years ago, a team of military spouse entrepreneurs set off on a mission to better the lives of military spouses through mentoring - with a single purpose of helping them isolate their skills and passions and put them to work towards building a portable career, volunteer or business opportunity.
MSF is focused on teaching spouses how to build upon or engage their passions, education and skill sets in a way that will accommodate portability, knowing that this is the most critical element of long-term success and happiness.
“The educational and mentoring programs are designed by professional military spouses that “walk the walk” every day and understand the needs of our community,” says Teri Twigg, Community Relations Team Leader for the East Coast Region.
The executive team at MSF is carefully selected to ensure that the program continues in the tradition of being operated by military spouses and that the educational and mentoring programs are focused on the needs of the spouse above anything else.
The programs have a tangible element built around the unique needs of the military family as well. “The focus is on ensuring that our spouses can implement what they are learning inside our incubator style workshops so they can hit the ground running while they have a professional educator and coach at their side,” says
Roxanne Reed, the Executive Director of Programs. “The greatest challenge for our spouses is finding portability in every dimension possible because he or she may be in a duty station for only two years at a time. We teach spouses how to make that reality of military life a blessing, not a road block.”
MSF was developed to prepare spouses for finding a career, volunteer or business path that engages their passion but that also fits into the family dynamics of transitions and deployments. Military spouses are often highly educated, extremely talented and have an unwavering loyalty to anything they pursue – the profile most businesses and organizations seek out.
